Allright guys (and girls!), on Saturday the 12th May 2007 after the Bulls - Crusaders semi-final the Springbok Rugby Training Squad will be announced for the tests against England and Samoa, as well as the Tri-Nations on channel 21 on DSTV (MNET). SARB has compiled a squad whose names we would like to see in that announcement, divided into ‘1st Team’, ‘Reserves’, ‘Rest of Squad’ and ‘Training Squad’.Players from the training squad will probably get the chop once the tests start. SARB’s resources hints that 28 players will eventually be kept in the final squad as this is the number of players you’re allowed to take to the World Cup. You’ll notice Jean de Villiers’ name absent from the 1st team (absurd!), due to a wrist injury that will see him miss the first two tests against England. Ashwin Willemse is also eligible for the squad, shaking off his knee, ankle and hamstring injury (at last!). Check it…

‘Dave’ is obviously used to watching ice hockey or something and doesn’t have a clue. I think its a great side except I would’ve included JP Pietersen above Ndungane in the ‘1st team’ and put Derick Hougaard in the ‘rest of squad’. I cant believe they chose Bevan Fortuin and Wayne Julies in the squad last night. But we all know why that is: COLOUR!!! I hope the rugby World Cup doesn’t go the same route as the Cricket World Cup because of transformation.
The team is cool. thassrite you mistaken, those coloured players can really play rugby. Wayne julies is a world class player in his position. bevan deserves a change an can realy play a good game if he wants to. as for hougaard, he can really kick good but does not have enough skills to play flyhalf for the springbok team. its not about kicking for goal, it is all about making the right decisions. no better than andre pretorius.

get some games on video where julies played for the lions against the bulls. the guy is renowned for his distribution skills, solid defence especially his attacking side. look how the guy makes a break. i cannot believe that you say the guy is slow and his defence is average. i know the guy has got a BIG BUT, but you should not concentrate on that charl, you should not!!!
Match the guy up with jp nel. as an attacking option nel is limited. distribution skills”likes to play for himself” bulls could have scored some tries against the crusaders if julies played.

Ricky - Yes, Julies did play in the game against the Reds with the Bulls running in 12 tries he didnt get a single one??
The game was wide open and the Reds defence poor - but did u see him make any breaks or show any moment of brilliance?
He just passed the ball not to make a mistake - Jakes eyes have always been on him and if he plays average to good hes in the team.

@ricky & ray: I believe that coloured players will come thru the ranks by themselves if they are good, they dont need to be pushed. Look at players like Bryan Habanna, Waylon Murray and Guthro Steenkamp. There IS NO OTHER international team that will choose Wayne Julies and Bevan Fortuin above lets say, De Wet Barry and Johan Roets.

Take the proteas. Last year they chose Gogga Adams above Nicky Boje because of transformation (fact). Nicky Boje was playing for the Eagles and Gogga couldnt even make the Cobras team. So Nicky quit and this robbed us of the best spinner in the country (didnt we miss it in the World Cup!) Like I said, I hope the Rugby World Cup doesnt go the same way as the Cricket.

another point is if you read any newspaper or letter column in RSA you will notice that 90% of the readers unhappiness is with the black and coloured players and john smit but that is another matter on its own.
Go to any rugby stadium you will see blacks coloureds enjoying rugby all they want is that every player should be judge fairly and i can assure you from living in a coloured township that is not what is happening.
