The ABSA Currie Cup is now in full swing with all the teams in action the past weekend and there were no surprises during the weekend’s action.

Friday night saw WP take on the Sharks in Durban and neither team can feel satisfied with the quality of rugby that was played. The Sharks capitalised on WP mistakes and poor defence to run in four tries and victors by 32-16. Both teams have a lot of work ahead if they want to feature in the competition this year.

Boland travelled to Brakpan on Friday night to take on the Falcons and they came away with a fantastic away win and picked up maximum points out of the game. Boland victorius by 39-33.

Saturday was derby day for the central and nothern teams with the Cheetahs that played Griquas and the Bulls took on the Lions.

The Cheetahs maintained their unbeaten status so far in the Currie Cup by beating neighbours, Griquas, by 51-10. The Cheetahs are certainly looking impressive so far and any team that wants to win the Currie Cup this year will have to beat them first.

The Bulls took on the Lions at Loftus and recovered from last week’s defeat by beating the Lions by 25-11. Thios was a tough encounter with both teams defending well, but still conceding to many penalties and not finishing promising moves. A lot of hard work awaits these two teams in the coming weeks.
