SA battle bravely

The old analogy that you can not win rugby games by just defending came true again. For 70 minutes the Bok ‘B’ team was able to hold the All Blacks and frustrate them with fantastic defence. The last ten mintes saw the All Blacks run in three tries to run out victors 33-6, but the youngsters in the Bok side have nothing to be ashamed of.

New Zealand had better quality possesion but struggled to make an impression against solid defence by a motivated Springbok side. A dubious yellow card against Pedrie Wannenburg left the SA side with no gas left in the tank for the last ten minutes and the superior attacking skills af the All Blacks created gaps that led to three converted tries and a convincing All Black victory.

The All Blacks did make a lot of mistakes during the game and they are not looking as ominous as in previous World Cup years. Teams like Australia, France, Ireland and a full strength SA side should be going into the World Cup fancying their chances against the number 1 ranked team in the world.

SARB decided to rate the Springbok players on their performance:
15.JP Pietersen 6.5/10: A solid performance by the youngster.Looked dangerous with ball in hand and defended well.
14.Breyton Paulse 4/10: Made mistakes on defence and gave away to many penalties. Not a good test.
13.Waylon Murray 6/10: Better than last week but not enough chances on attack. Can feel satisfied with his game.
12.Wynand Olivier 7.5/10: A vast improvement on last week. Tackled like his life depended on it and a good test all round
11.Jaco Pretorius 4/10: Looked out of depth at this level and not match fit.
10.Derick Hougaard 4/10: Not a good test. Failed to get his backline away and kicked poorly out of hand.
9.Ruan Pienaar 7/10: Another great test by the youngster, solid on defence and tactically mature beyond his years.
8.Jacques Cronje 7/10: One of his best performances ever in the Bok jersey.Did well at the base of the scrums with his pack under pressure.
7.Pedrie Wannenburg 6/10: Played well and gave his all. Received a dubious yellow card but can feel satisfied with his game.
6.Wikus van Heerden 8.5/10: Another fantastic performance by him. Has certainly booked his ticket to the World Cup with his last two performances.
5.Johann Muller 6.5/10: A solid test and did well as acting captain.
4.Albert van den Berg 6/10: A good test by the lanky lock. Solid in the line outs and broken play.
3.Jannie du Plessis 6/10: Solid but struggled in the scrums. Can feel satisfied with his first games at international level.
2.Bismarck du Plessis 6.5/10: Still wild at times but plays like every game is his last. Solid performance in his first full test.
1.CJ van der Linde 7/10: Another good test by the prop showing he is comfortable both sides of the scrum.
Reserves:
Peter Grant 5.5/10: Looked good when he replaced Hougaard, with more experience he can be great at this level.

the rest of the replacements did not have enough game time to warrant ratings.

SARB Springbok player of the game: Wikus van Heerden
