Bokke show they are ready

Jake White will be a very happy and relieved man after the Springbok performance against Scotland at Murrayfield.

The Scots started the game well, applying the early pressure and getting a penalty to take a 3-0 lead. The first time SA got into Scotland’s 22-metre area Percy Montgomery levelled the score. Then followed a dream passage of play by the Bokke. Bryan Habana scored a fantastic try from a set move after a scrum close to the Scottish try line. Jaque Fourie crashed over for a try after good work by his centre partner, Francois Steyn, and then Fourie du Preez scored a brilliant try from a move that started inside the SA half.

The second half saw Montgomery kick another penalty to take SA out to a 27-3 lead. This was also the final score. Although the Bokke did not playas well in the second half as they did in the first, Jake will be very happy with the defence and the fact that his team came through the game with no major injuries. Individual players that would have made White happy is Gary Botha, who had his best test yet, Fourie du Preez and Bryan Habana, who both showed they have recovered from their injuries, and Francois Steyn who proved that he can play anywhere in the backline and be a success.

SARB decided to rate the Sprinbok players on their performance:

15. Percy Montgomery 6.5/10: Another solid performance by the fullback, although he can do a bit more with ball in hand.

14. JP Pietersen 4.5/10: Not the answer on the wing that the Bokke are looking for. Hands let him down to often and he is not solid enough on defence.

13. Jaque Fourie 5.5/10: Had few chances but did not make any mistakes.

12. Francois Steyn 7.5/10: A fantastic game by the youngster in one of the most difficult positions on the field. He is a brilliant rugby player that can play anywhere in the backline.

11. Bryan Habana 8/10: Brilliant. Proved he has fully recovered from injury and was a handfull for the Scots, on attack and defence.

10. Butch James 6/10: A good game by the flyhalf although he was lucky not to receive a yellow card for a dangerous tackle.

9. Fourie du Preez 9/10: Absolutely fantastic. Provides great service to his backline, his kicking out of hand and option taking brilliant. Probably the best in the world at the moment.

8. Danie Rossouw 7/10: A solid game by the big Bulls forward. Difficult to bring down when carrying the ball and makes huge hits on defence.

7. Juan Smith 6/10 : A bit quiet in the first half but had a big impact in the second.

6. Schalk Burger 7.5/10: Gives a 110% every time he wears the Bok jersey. Puts his body on the line and was superb again.

5. Victor Matfield(captain) 7/10: Dominated the line outs and very prominent in the loose.

4. Bakkies Botha 6.5/10: Does the hard work upfront with a smile on his face. Another good test by the hard man.

3. CJ van der Linde 7/10: Solid in the scrums and showed good hands and pace for a big prop.

2. Gary Botha 8/10: His best test to date and proved that he can fill John Smit’s shoes.

1. Os du Randt 7.5/10: The old man in the Bok side shows he can still keep up with the younsters and that he has a lot to offer to the Bok World Cup campaign.

Reserves:

Andre Pretorius 6/10: Looks like he is over his injury, now he just needs game time.

Wikus van Heerden 6.5/10: His great form just continues. Can be a valuable asset during the World Cup.

The rest of the replacements were not on the field long enough to warrant ratings.

SARB Springbok man of the match: Fourie du Preez

Not so sure about the Steyn rating.. I can count five mistakes he made early on in the game that cost us momentum..

The rest of the ratings are spot on.. Really dissapointed with JP’s performance on the wing.. we dont really have a replacement for him as Ashwim sucks big time..

    Cant we clone Habana!

Also Pretorius kick in the last few minutes of the game on the Scot’s try line was ridiculous.. no point whatsoever.. not sold on him either.

I thought Steyn had a great game, solid on defence with a couple of sniping line breaks. And the pass that he got away to Jaque Fourie to score was fantastic!!!

I agree with Peterson’s rating he was shocking. Quota players like him can cost us the World Cup, bring back Breyton Paulse on the wing, we need another experienced player in the back three.

Pretorius to come of the bench to replace Butch with 15 minutes left in a tight game can work and we will all love him if those little kicks pays off or he slots a drop goal to win us the world Cup. He should be there!!!!!
