The Brumbies opened their Super14 account with a narrow victory over the Highlanders. Both teams have lost a lot of experianced players and it looks like they will struggle in the competition this year. These teams both have a proud history though and they will certainly keep on trying.

The Brumbies ran out to 17-7 half time lead but the second half saw the Highlanders make most of the play and with minutes remaining they closed the gap to 22-20. They then had a chance to snatch the victory in the 70th minute but the penalty went wide and the Brumbies managed to hold on to their 2 point lead for their first victory of the 2008 Super14 competition.
