The Chiefs managed to secure their first victory of the 2008 Super14 competition when they beat the Waratahs in Waikato.
The Chiefs started the game the better of the two sides and scored two tries in the first half to take a 12-0 half time lead. The Waratahs came back strongly in the second half, scoring 3 tries to 1 but a last minute penalty secured the victory for the Chiefs.
Both teams made to many mistakes and still seam to be struggling with the new laws and match fitness also seams to be lacking. Final score: Chiefs 20 Waratahs
