The Crusaders suffered their first defeat of the 2008 Super14 season against an inspired Chiefs side. The Chiefs took on their much fancied opponents at their own game and came away with the better result. The Chiefs defense was awesome and they applied immense pressure on the Crusaders young backline. The pressure resulted in uncharacteristic Crusaders mistakes and the Chiefs took full advantage of these errors. The Chiefs outscored the ‘Saders by two tries to one and were deserved winners of this New Zealand derby. Final score: Chiefs 18 Crusaders 5
