It’s been five years since the Kapa O Pango was first performed by the All Blacks. It was in New Zealand, and it was against the Springboks. On Saturday they brought it out once again, and the passion and fire that they put into it seemed to be just the start of what was a fantastic night for New Zealand rugby.
Danie Rossouw grabbed his chance with both hands while Bakkies Botha was serving out a suspension for foul play by delivering an excellent performance for the Springboks against the French at Newlands.
Here is that big tackle on Lionel Nallet:
The Bulls played the Stormers in the Super 14 final in front of 40 000 fans in Soweto and came out on top by 25 – 17.
Morne Steyn, who kicked 19 points in last years final, kicked 20 this time around, as he once again played a vital role in a Bulls victory. Wing Francois Hougaard scored the only try of the match as Fourie Du Preez put him into a gap and he rounded Stormers fullback Joe Pietersen with relative ease.
The Stormers crossed twice, thanks to former Bull Bryan Habana and replacement scrumhalf Ricky Januarie, but the collective experience and composure of the Bulls made the difference in the end.
For those who missed it, or want to relive to it, here’s a highlights clip for you.
While Clermont flyhalf Brock James had a nightmare against Leinster in the quarter final meeting on Friday, if he had slotted that final kick we probably would have been hearing all about Julien Malzieu’s top performance on the wing.
Malzieu scored a hat-trick and had some great charges. Enjoy…
Trevor Woodman MBE, the World Cup winner who lifted the trophy with England four years ago, played his rugby at Gloucester for nine years before moving up north to Sale. He unfortunately had to retire prematurely due to a nagging back injury sustained in training.
Check out this excellent individual try he scored for Gloucester against Sale a few months before the move.
Montauban prop Bogdan Balan picked up an ankle injury during their impressive 45-31 win over Racing Metro on the weekend. Unfortunately for him though, his journey off the pitch wasn’t quite smooth sailing.
As you watch them walking off, you can see something isn’t right as there’s two tiny girls at the back who clearly don’t look comfortable with what has been asked of them.
Eventually he goes down to the turf in a heap as they struggle to hold him up. It’s pretty shocking to see, but luckily it didn’t seem to cause any further damage so we can have a chuckle about it and hope it never happens again. Someone please buy them a golf cart.
There is little doubt that Burke is one of the most successful and respected international fullbacks of recent times, notching up the second highest all time points tally for an Australian Test player.
For the Waratahs he is the highest ever points scorer and the second highest capped player, with his illustrious Sydney career spanning from 1992 to 2004.
With the 2010 Six Nations in full swing, we thought it would be great to have a look at some big hits of previous tournaments.
